C2C Medal of Inspiration: UC Santa Cruz’s Caleb Lee and Salisbury’s Dylan Winebrenner Recognized

UC Santa Cruz's Caleb Lee and Salisbury's Dylan Winebrenner were selected by the league's senior woman administrators as the recipients of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Medal of Inspiration for the 2024-25 academic year.

The C2C Medal of Inspiration is awarded to person(s) from the league who have persevered through extraordinary circumstances and whose determination, devotion, and passion are exemplary, revered among their peers, and worthy of special recognition.

Lee, a senior from Pasadena, Calif., showed tremendous courage and determination to overcome the adversity of a life-threatening illness requiring heart surgery to get back on the field.  He needed to relearn basic mobility to return to the UCSC men's soccer team for the 2024 season.  Lee appeared in 17 games this season with six starts and scored two goals and logged an assist for the Banana Slugs.

Winebrenner, a senior catcher from Frederick, Md., showed exceptional resilience and commitment to get back on the field after having Tommy John surgery twice.  He underwent his first surgery after a right elbow injury as a freshman and was unable to finish the season.  The following year Winebrenner had a scope as the injury never healed.  He then required a second Tommy John surgery and completed a year of physical therapy to return.  Winebrenner's resolve led to C2C Baseball Player of the Year, first-team All-C2C and All-Region, ECAC Player of the Year, and Salisbury's Comeback Player of the Year honors this season.  He slashed .356/.444/.655 with 14 doubles, four triples, 10 homers, 54 RBIs, 49 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and a 1.099 OPS in 44 games.
