The York women's basketball team and the Marymount men both upended higher-seeded teams Saturday on the final day of the 2007-08 basketball regular season, helping to determine the final details for the pairings of this year's CAC playoffs.

The York women posted a 74-61 decision over Marymount, the No. 2 team in the CAC and ranked second in the Atlantic Region.  It was Marymount's second loss in the last three games.

York and Marymount will both host quarterfinal-round women's playoff games Tuesday (2/26), as will regular-season champ Mary Washington, the top-ranked team in the region, and St. Mary's.

On the men's side, Marymount hoped a win over regular-season champ York would help the Saints move up to fifth place in the final regular-season standings.  However, St. Mary's picked up a win at Wesley, and combined with Hood's victory over Salisbury, created a three-way tie for third place.

Hood gains the advantage because the Blazers won three of four games vs. SMC and Wesley.  SMC is the fourth seed because the Seahawks swept the series against the Wolves. 

Hood's third seed also determined the eighth-seed in the tournament as Gallaudet and Salisbury finished tied for eighth place.  The Sea Gulls gained the final seed in the playoffs because they beat Hood in the first meeting of the season.

The 2008 CAC playoffs begin Tuesday, with 6 and 8 p.m. doubleheaders at York, Mary Washington and St. Mary's.  The second-seeded Marymount women and the third-seeded Hood men will both host 7 p.m. single games. 

The semifinals will be played Thursday (2/28), followed by the championship games on Saturday (3/1).  The highest seeded team in each game will serve as host.  The CAC champions earn an automatic bid to their respective 2008 NCAA Division III championship tournaments.
