2012 CAC Fall Playoffs Commence This Weekend - With Some Changes Due To The Expected Bad Weather In The Middle Atlantic Region
The approach of Hurricane Sandy and a strong weather pattern from the West have led to the starting time of several events to change as the CAC prepares for the opening weekend of the Fall season playoffs.
The first two championships of 2012-13 will be held at Saturday (10/27) morning at Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg, Md., when eight institutions compete for team and individual cross country championships. The men’s race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s race at noon.
The first round of the women’s soccer playoffs will be played as scheduled Saturday (10/27) when fifth-seeded St. Mary’s visits fourth-seeded Mary Washington (2 p.m.) and sixth-seeded Wesley travels to third-seeded York (12:30 p.m.). The starting time of the Wesley at York match has been moved up one hour to accommodate a change in the men’s playoff schedule.
The men’s soccer and field hockey playoffs are scheduled to start Sunday, but three of the four games have been altered from the original starting time because of the weather forecasts.
In men’s soccer, third-seeded York will host sixth-seeded St. Mary’s after the women’s soccer playoff match. The other first-round match, featuring fifth-seeded Mary Washington at fourth-seeded Marymount, will be played at the Saints’ Long Branch turf field Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
The starting time of both first-round field hockey games have been changed. Saturday, fourth-seeded York will host fifth-seeded St. Mary’s at 3 p.m. The other first-round game, pitting sixth-seeded Frostburg State at third-seeded Wesley, will begin Sunday at 10 a.m.
Women’s soccer semifinals, along with first-round volleyball playoff action, are currently scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30. Field hockey and men’s soccer semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31. All four sports are scheduled to crown their champions on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the home venue of the highest-seeded team playing in the championship contest.
