5 CAC Women's Soccer Teams Honored By NSCAA For Academic Achievement
Five CAC women's soccer teams - Frostburg State, Salisbury, St. Mary's, Wesley and York - earned the distinction of being a 2011-12 NSCAA College Team Academic Award winner as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
SMC's women's soccer team earned the academic distinction for the sixth-straight year and 10th time. The Seahawks posted a team grade point average of 3.40 for the 2011-12 academic year. The GPA of the 2011-12 Seahawks is the highest average boasted by a team in the 10 academic awards garnered by the women's soccer program.
Capital Athletic Conference institutions joining SMC in making the NSCAA academic cut of 3.00 or higher GPA were Frostburg State (3.32 GPA), Salisbury (3.31 GPA), York (3.21 GPA) and Wesley (3.15 GPA).
FSU picked up its fifth-straight NSCAA College Team Academic Award. On the field, FSU finished 14-4-2, captured the Capital Athletic Conference Championship and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
A total of 717 college soccer teams (497 women, 220 men), across all three NCAA divisions, notched a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. Of that total, 148 institutions had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
