INTRODUCING ... Stevenson University Junior Baseball Pitcher/Outfielder Jeff Bihy

This week's INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete, Stevenson University junior baseball pitcher/outfielder Jeff Bihy, leads the CAC in batting average and has been named conference Player of the Week twice this season.

Bihy has led the Mustangs to a 13-7 overall record and a 7-6 mark in the competitive CAC standings.  The Baltimore-area native is also as competitive as they come.  Here is a closer look at Jeff Bihy.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I grew up in Bowley’s Quarters, Md. I played baseball for the Essex Express since I was 12 years old and currently play baseball with them now in the Baltimore Baseball League. I went to Eastern Tech High School in Essex, Md., where we reached the state championship game in three of the four years I was there, winning in 2005. I then went to CCBC Essex and was coached by Mark Palmerino. My sophomore year, we lost in the regional final.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is “The Bubble.”  It’s an enclosed turf field that the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens previously used for training camp. A couple guys on the team play basketball and soccer there.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in?  I participate in the Believe in Tomorrow Foundation.  Readers can learn more about it at http://gomustangsports.com/sports/bsb/2009-10/releases/120409

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  The most important issue is money management - spending the money on the essentials in life before spending it on pleasures.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   My major is Interdisciplinary Studies (Mathematics and Information Systems). In my major, I’ve learned the importance of problem solving and drawing conclusions for problems - learning how to display the solution through tables and graphs on the computer.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?   Other than my family, the most influential person has been Essex Express Head Coach Brian Brown. He helps me through tough spots and he is always there to support me when things turn sour.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  I would tell them “Don’t give up on your dream.”  If you get cut from a team or don’t play that much, don’t give up because you only have one chance to play college sports.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is video games - mainly sports games. I like the competitiveness and it passes the time.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  My favorite team is the Baltimore Ravens. They play great defense and run the ball hard. Since I was young, they were the only football team I have ever known.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead that you'd like to have dinner with?    I’d like to have dinner with Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. Jesus and Babe Ruth.  Jared Allen because he's a hilarious football player, hunts and fishes too. I enjoy the outdoors so I feel like I would enjoy the conversation. I want to meet Jesus because of the stories he would tell and the advice hed give me. I would like to meet Babe Ruth because he is the best baseball player to ever live and I'm sure he would have some good stories to tell about his career and his background from growing up in Baltimore.
