INTRODUCING ... York Baseball Standout C.T. Stanley

York junior first baseman C.T. Stanley, this week's INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete, is a two-year starter for the Spartans and among the CAC leaders in home runs, RBI and being hit by a pitch.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old starting with coach pitch, which then grew to little league, then to tournament teams, and then high school where I attended Calvert Hall. After a fun four years of baseball I was undecided about where to play in college. One day during a summer game my teammate told me that the coach from York was coming to watch him pitch. Luckily I played well and coach was looking for a 1st basemen. To make a long story short, now I bleed green.  Go Spartans!

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite place on campus is our baseball field (Jaquet field). There is nothing like a walking out to the field after class and just forgetting everything except baseball for the next few hours. Not to mention or field is beautiful. If I’m not in class or in my dorm, I’m at the field.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?  I participate in AFC (Athletes for Christ). We meet every Friday night at 7:30 (religiously) and talk about how God influences our lives both on and off the field. It’s a great experience; I wish more student-athletes would take the step.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  LACK OF FUNDS!  Being broke and living off romen noodles is not the best thing for athletes, or anyone for that matter.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   I am majoring in Business Administration. I would have to say the most important thing I have learned is that “cash is king”.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  I am very fortunate to be surrounded with many influential people on a daily basis. That being said, I would have to say my father. Not only is he the man I strive everyday to be, he is my hero. All growing up he taught me to surround myself with successful people. It is his hard work, sacrifices, and life lessons that drive me every day. I hope that one day I can pay him back for all that he has done for me. Thanks Dad!

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  It’s tough to give advice to kids that young. They can’t see past recess when it comes to the future, at least that’s how I was. But if I was in front of a class I would give them two piece of advice that I wish I understood when I was younger.

  1. Don’t be like every body else.
  2. ALWAYS remember who you represent.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is coming up big in clutch situations for my teammates. Baseball is an amazing sport; it’s a game of failures, as a team you have to lean on each other. It is a lot of fun when your teammates lean on you, and you send the 1-1 offering to right center scoring 2, blowing a game wide open. There is nothing like the energy that creates in the dugout and the feeling you get, knowing that you came through for your brothers when they needed you.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team (and why)?  My favorite sports person is Albert Pujols. He is an amazing ball player. He never tries to do more than he can, he stays within himself, and he doesn’t give up at-bats. He is incredibly consistent and he is so cool under pressure.  I would love to talk hitting with him.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?    1. Dave Ramsey- I really believe that in today’s world there is lack of financial literacy, and that is why many Americans are subject to debt. Mr. Ramsey is very passionate about educating the American people to free themselves of debt. He is an incredible speaker, educator and above all else he is a man of God.

2. Abraham Lincoln- He is the most influential man of all time! His actions 150 years ago literally changed the world to the one we know it today. Who would not want to meet him?

3. Bruce Wayne/Batman - A lot of people give me a hard time for liking Batman at my age, but there is a legit reason. Bruce Wayne to me is a symbol, that one man can make a difference even when all odds are against him.  I admire his dedication and passion.
