Frostburg State's Guy Robertson Named ABCA South Region Coach of the Year
Frostburg State head baseball coach Guy Robertson was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) South Region Coach of the Year. The award is the fourth such honor for Robertson this spring after guiding his Bobcat club to the most impressive season in school history.
Robertson led Frostburg State to a 43-9 overall record, setting both the school and Capital Athletic Conference record for wins in a season. The Bobcats were one of just two teams in Division III to eclipse 40 wins this year.
Robertson also guided Frostburg State to both the CAC regular season and tournament championships, the program's first-ever NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and the first appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Following two wins over Ramapo in the World Series, the Bobcats advanced to the championship semifinals and were one of the final four teams in DIII. FSU spent the final six weeks of the season ranked No. 2 in both the ABCA and D3Baseball.com national polls, the program's highest-ever ranking.
Along with their final ranking in both polls, the Bobcats also paced the country statistically in walks (237), fielding percentage (.975) and home runs (46). Frostburg finished third nationally in both runs (410) and winning percentage (.827), fifth in double plays (48) and hits (568) and sixth in shutouts (7).
Along with his ABCA honor, Robertson was named the Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the D3baseball.com South Region Coach of the Year and the ECAC South Coach of the Year.
The 2015 season marked the eighth at the helm of the Bobcats for Robertson, who has won 225 games during his tenure at Frostburg State. He has guided his teams to eight-consecutive conference tournament appearances along with NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2011 and 2015.
