UMW’s Powell, Riley Capture C2C Weekly Baseball Honors
The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2026 baseball season. Mary Washington's Eric Powell claimed C2C Player of the Week honors, while the Eagles Gavin Riley was tabbed C2C Pitcher of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eric Powell, Mary Washington
Mary Washington junior Eric Powell went 5-for-10 with a pair of doubles, and a walk in three games this week. Against No. 5 Shenandoah, Powell went 1-for-2 with a walk, while stealing one base. Against No. 13 Christopher Newport on Saturday, Powell went 1-for-3 with a bases-clearing, three-RBI double that proved to be the difference in a 5-2 victory. And on Sunday, Powell was 3-for-5 with another double, driving in a pair of runs, and stealing two bases.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Gavin Riley, Mary Washington
Mary Washington senior Gavin Riley pitched his first career complete game against No. 13 Christopher Newport on Saturday. Against the Captains, Riley yielded just two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out four hitters, finishing the first nine-inning complete game since 2021 for UMW. At one point in the game, Riley had set down seven consecutive hitters before silencing another 13-straight batters. In the field, he was perfect, finishing off all three of his chances in a 5-2 win.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS
Salisbury's Griffin Shirk slashed .313/.353/.688 with two homers, four runs, and eight RBIs over the Sea Gulls' four games for the week. He did his heavy lifting on Thursday against Virginia Wesleyan, belting his first two collegiate home runs - including a grand slam - and amassing eight rib-eyes as part of SU's 32-run outburst… Christopher Newport's Cameron Slough hit .429 for the week with three hits in seven at bats while adding four walks. He reached base at a .636 clip while driving in one run with two runs scored… Christopher Newport's Cooper Newell pitched a complete game against Regent University and improved to 5-0 on the season with a 4-1 win against the Royals. He tossed the first nine-inning complete game for the Captains since May 2024. In the win, he surrendered just four hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Over the last five innings, he faced just one batter over the minimum.
