CAC Fall Teams Set for NCAA Postseason

NCAA Championship competition commences this weekend for a number of CAC fall sports teams. The NCAA postseason opens up in cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.

Below is a full breakdown of this weekend's slate NCAA postseason of contests:


VOLLEYBALL - NCAA Bracket 

Mary Washington and Christopher Newport will represent the CAC in NCAA's for the second straight season. UMW is hosting an eight-team regional, with CNU one of the other teams competing in Fredericksburg this weekend. 

The action opens up on Friday afternoon with Christopher Newport (25-9) vs. Johns Hopkins (19-8) at 12:30 p.m. 

Juniata vs. Meredith (3 p.m.) and Randolph-Macon vs. Stevenson (5:30 p.m.) are sandwiched between Mary Washington (28-3) vs. Cabrini (18-14) in the nightcap at 8 p.m. 

Each volleyball regional consists of eight teams, with the regional champions to be crowned on Sunday afternoon. 


CROSS COUNTRY

Nine CAC cross country teams will compete at NCAA Regional Championships this Saturday in hopes of claiming bids into the NCAA National Championships. Five teams are headed to the Mid-East Championships hosted by DeSales in Center Valley, Pa. and four to the South/Southeast Championships hosted by Berry in Mount Berry, Ga. 

NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships  

Saturday, Nov. 12 | Center Valley, Pa. 

  • Frostburg State, Penn State Harrisburg, St. Mary's, Salisbury, York 

NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships  

Saturday, Nov. 12 | Mount Berry, Ga.  

  • Christopher Newport, Mary Washington, Marymount, Southern Virginia 

FIELD HOCKEY - NCAA Bracket 

Salisbury earned the lone NCAA bid from the CAC with a record-breaking 8-0 triumph over Mary Washington in the CAC title game. After receiving a first round bye, the second-ranked Sea Gulls (16-1) will host Kenyon (15-6) on Saturday at 11 a.m. Kenyon defeated Elizabethtown 2-1 in Wednesday's opening round. 

Ursinus (16-3) will meet Trinity (Conn.) (13-4) in Saturday's other second-round contest at Sea Gull Stadium. The two winners will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. with a Final Four bid at stake. 


MEN'S SOCCER - NCAA Bracket 

Christopher Newport heads north to Pennsylvania to the campus of Messiah for the NCAA opening rounds this weekend. The Captains (17-2-1) will take on Montclair State (16-5-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the back-end of a night doubleheader. 

Host Messiah (17-0-3) will meet Centenary (N.J.) (14-5-1) in the other opening round matchup at 5 p.m. 

The winners will meet on Sunday at 5 p.m. for a spot in the Sweet 16. 


WOMEN'S SOCCER - NCAA Bracket 

Christopher Newport (16-2-1) travels to Baltimore, Md. for a first-round matchup with Rowan (16-1-2) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Host Johns Hopkins (15-2-2) will face Western Connecticut State (15-5-2) in the other opening round matchup at 5 p.m. 

The two winners will meet on Sunday at 5 p.m. for a spot in the Sweet 16. 




ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS 

A trio of CAC teams will compete in ECAC Championship tournaments this weekend. Marymount volleyball, after winning its opening round match on Wednesday, will travel to Lebanon Valley for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal tilt Saturday. If the Saints advance, the semifinals and finals are on Sunday. 

In women's soccer, Frostburg State (10-9-1) was selected as the No. 4 seed in Region 3 and take on top-seeded Grove City (15-5) on Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be played in Owings Mills, Md. on the campus of Stevenson.

In men's soccer, Penn State Harrisburg (11-8) was selected as the No. 3 seed in Region 4 and will meet No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona (11-7-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Alfred University.
