Salisbury's Horner, Christopher Newport's Billhimer Earn C2C Field Hockey Player of the Week Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2022 field hockey season. Salisbury freshman McKenna Horner earned C2C Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport sophomore Brooke Billhimer claimed C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: McKenna Horner - Salisbury

Salisbury's McKenna Horner scored all three goals in the third-ranked Sea Gulls' 3-2 win over the No. 1 Rowan Profs on Wednesday to help Salisbury become the nation's lone undefeated team. Horner netted the game-winning goal off an assist from McKenzie Jamison with 35 seconds left in the game. It was Horner's third career multi-goal game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brooke Billhimer - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport's Brooke Billhimer starred as the center back while anchoring a defense that carried CNU to a pair of decisive victories. On Monday in a 4-1 triumph over Susquehanna, Billhimer blocked a career-high three shots, including two deflections early in the third quarter with the Captains fostering a slim one-goal advantage. On Friday, Billhimer came back with her second defensive save of the season during a 4-0 shutout at Rhodes. Once again, Billhimer's stop came during a crucial moment as she closed off the cage following a penalty corner at the end of the first half with Christopher Newport holding a tight 1-0 lead. Overall, Billhimer played all 120 minutes during the two games while helping the Captains record their ninth shutout of the season on Friday.

On Friday, Asuncion came back with the game-winning goal in a 4-0 victory at Rhodes. That strike marked Asuncion's 10th career game-winner, tying Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Belle Tunstall for the third-most by a Captain...Mary Washington's Emma Bernard added to her impressive season in a pair of games this week, scoring four goals. Bernard scored her second hat trick of the season on Wednesday in a 4-1 win at Juniata and scored the Eagles' lone tally in a 3-1 loss to #20 Lynchburg on Saturday. Bernard leads the C2C in goals (15) and points (38).  Junior Annie Grace Louthan shined in Saturday's matchup against #20 Lynchburg, recording a pair of defensive saves in the Eagles' 3-1 loss.
