Hood Golf Team Sets Team Record For Tournament Score In Tying For First Place At Messiah Tournament

The Hood College men's golf team enjoyed one of the program's finest tournaments Tuesday as the Blazers took second out of 11 teams at the Falcon Classic hosted by Messiah College at the Blue Ridge Country Club.

After tying host Messiah for first place with a combined score of 309, the tiebreaker decision reviewed the round carded by each team's No. 5 scorer. Messiah edged out Hood by one stroke, 88-89, to claim the title.

In the final fall match of the season, Hood set a school record with its combined score and finished in front of the foursomes from Capital Athletic Conference rivals York College (Pa.) (333) and Marymount University (340).

Hood senior Evan Chaney, first-year Jake Cole and York's Adam Dupler, the 2010 CAC Player and Rookie of the Year, all shot 76s to tie for fifth place in the individual standings.  Chaney and Cole each set personal bests and tied Hood's individual school record.

Peter Johns paced Marymount with an eight-over-par 80 to tie for 19th place.

Medalist honors went to Messiah's Matt Burkhart who shot a two-under par 70.
