Salisbury's Jim Berkman Becomes First College Lacrosse Coach to Reach 500 Wins
Salisbury men's lacrosse coach Jim Berkman became the first college lacrosse coach at any level to reach 500 wins with the top-ranked Sea Gulls' 26-4 victory over Wesley on Wednesday, headlining mid-week action around the conference.
Also the all-time leader in national championships with 11, Berkman is the first men's or women's coach across Division I, II, and II to reach 500 career coaching wins. Berkman's 500 wins consists of 491 during his tenure at the helm of Salisbury, with the other nine coming after a 9-6 season as the head coach at SUNY Potsdam. In his 30 years of head coaching (29 at Salisbury, 1 at Potsdam), Berkman owns a .899 winning percentage with a 500-56 overall record.
In other CAC action on Wednesday, No. 5 York won its seventh in a row with a 13-4 road win at St. Mary's, and Christopher Newport topped Mary Washington 14-9 on the road.
In non-conference play, Marymount edged Arcadia 8-6 and Frostburg State fell to Ohio Wesleyan 12-10.
