York Edges Stevens in OT to Advance to NCAA Men's Soccer Sweet 16; Salisbury Falls to Messiah

York advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second straight year with a 2-1 triumph over Stevens Institute in the second round on Sunday, while Salisbury saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 defeat to third-ranked Messiah.

Trailing 1-0 with time winding down, York sophomore Brendan Saberton knotted the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute to send the contest to overtime. Saberton then buried the game-winner less than a minute into the extra period to send York to the round of 16.

The 15th-ranked Spartans (19-2-1) will face off against third-ranked Rutgers-Camden (20-0-2), a 4-0 winner over Lycoming, next weekend, at a location yet to be determined. The other matchup in the regional pod with York and Rutgers-Camden will feature Montclair State (16-3-3) against Rochester (15-2-2).

The Sea Gulls (18-4), ranked 15th in the nation, fell to defending champion Messiah (20-1-1) at home early Sunday afternoon. The Falcons tallied three first-half scores en route to the victory.
