Nine CAC Men's Soccer Players Selected to NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Team

Nine CAC men's soccer players earned All-South Atlantic Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Thursday, highlighted by Christopher Newport's Harry Nodwell's selection to the first team.
Nodwell was the lone CAC player named to the first team, while St. Mary's Nick Tait, Frostburg State's Mitchell Muise and the Salisbury duo of Drew Staedeli and Leslie Umunna earned second team recognition.
Landing on third team were CNU's Sean Christein, Mary Washington's Mike Bennett, Salisbury's Nathaniel Eiben and York's Nigel Robinson.
CNU's Nodwell, a midfielder, picked up his second straight all-region honor after claiming his second straight All-CAC First Team recognition. He scored two goals and added four assists for eight total points, led the team in assists and put away a pair of game-winning goals, against Greensboro in double overtime and in come-from-behind fashion against St. Mary's. He made 17 starts in 19 games played in the midfield, helping organize the attack and control the middle of the park defensively.
Tait, a junior midfielder for St. Mary's, is the first Seahawk to earn all-region since 2006. The 2015 CAC Player of the Year, Tait was the conference leader in all offensive categories with CAC-bests of 15 goals, 11 assists, and 41 points. In the Division III national statistics, he finished ranked 18th in assists, 21st in points, 22nd in assists per game (0.55), and 23rd in points per game (2.05). In the St. Mary's record books, he currently ranks seventh all-time with 18 assists and ninth in goals (22) and points (62).
Frostburg State's Muise earned a spot on the All-South Atlantic Region Second Team after his impressive defensive efforts this season. The defender started all 19 games for the Bobcats and helped to place the FSU defense near the top of the CAC. He helped lead Frostburg State to a 0.75 goals-against-average, placed the Bobcats second in the CAC in goals against (12), and third in shutouts (9). On the offensive end, he was third on the roster in in goals scored this season (3) and ended with a .833 shots-on- goal percentage. Muise was also selected as a First Team All-CAC pick for the 2015 season.
Salisbury's Staedeli makes his second appearance on the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region team, with his first selection coming during the 2013 season when he was a third-team pick. During the 2015 season, the senior captain recorded 105 saves en route to a .890 save percentage, which is good for fifth in the nation. Staedeli also compiled a 0.63 goals-against average for the Gulls, which puts him at 21st in the nation.
In his first season at Salisbury, Umunna became an immediate scoring threat for the Sea Gulls as he put home seven goals and added one assist for 15 points. Three of Umunna's seven tallies came as game-winning goals, including his penalty-kick goal in the CAC Championship game to lead Salisbury to its 13th NCAA tournament appearance.
CNU's Christein led one of the top defenses in the conference this season, helping the Captains hold opponents to just a 0.68 goals against average. He was twice tabbed the CAC Defensive Player of the Week this year as he helped guide Christopher Newport to 10 shutouts, allowing just 14 goals in 19 games. The CNU defense only got better as the game progressed, allowing a meager four goals after halftime for a 0.18 goals against average, and the defense did not allow a goal after regulation, posting a 3-0-6 record in overtime games. The Yorktown, Va. native also added help offensively, scoring two goals and chipping in one assist during the year. One of his scoring tallies was the game-winning goal against Southern Virginia.
Mary Washington's Mike Bennett represented the Eagles on the all-region squad as a third team pick. The senior midfielder led the Eagles in points (11) and assists (3) and tied for the team lead in goals (4). Bennett was a First Team All-CAC pick after leading UMW to the CAC Tournament semifinals.
Salisbury's Eiben made a name for himself on both ends of the field this year as he was a part of the backline that combined for 10 shutouts, while he scored four goals and one assist for nine points. Coming into the season with four career starts and five career shots, Eiben started all 20 contests for the Gulls this season and took 21 shots from his defensive position.
York's Robinson made a significant impact on the Spartan squad after transferring into the program as a junior. Robinson tallied 14 points on a team-high six goals to go along with two assists in his 19 games played. His goal and point totals also ranked inside the top-10 in the CAC this year. Robinson scored game-winning goals against Lebanon Valley and Penn State-Harrisburg. He joins a long list of accomplished Spartans as he is the 46th NSCAA All-Region selection in program history.
