Christopher Newport Men's Soccer Falls to Messiah in NCAA Second Round
Christopher Newport saw its season come to a close with a 2-0 defeat to Messiah on Sunday evening in Grantham, Pa. The 21st-ranked Captains conclude their season at 18-3-1 with the defeat, while the fourth-ranked Falcons advance to next weekend's Sweet 16.
The Captains captured their second CAC title this fall since joining the league in 2013, and advanced to NCAA's for the 10th time in program history.
CNU held a slight edge in shots (13-11), while Messiah held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2. CNU goalkeeper Zach Pedini made three saves in the loss.
In the ECAC Championship Tournament, Penn State Harrisburg post its second win in as many days with a 2-0 triumph over Alfred in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Mena Rezkalla and Mitchell Saye found the back of the net for the Lions in the win.
With the victory, the Lions advance to the semifinals on Saturday, where they will meet Drew at Lebanon Valley for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
