BUENA VISTA, Va.— Southern Virginia University Director of Athletics Jason Lamb announced that the Knights Head Men's Soccer Coach, Joshua Patiño, has accepted an assistant coaching position for the women's soccer program at Gonzaga University.

"As much as I wanted to have him stay, the chance to coach at the NCAA D-I level is a very important opportunity to Josh and his family," said Lamb. "All of us at Southern Virginia University wish him the most success at Gonzaga."

Patiño will join the coaching staff of his former Brigham Young University coach, Chris Watkins. Watkins was named the Zags head women's soccer coach on December 12, 2016.

"I've known Josh since he was a junior in high school," Watkins commented, "I know his great character and his work ethic. As soon as I was offered this job Josh was the first guy I brought up to be my assistant."

"I get to see Josh out recruiting and interacting with players," Watkins continued. "He has a great reputation and cares about his players and their development as people."

Coach Patiño informed his team of his decision during a special conference call last week. Lamb will lead a search for the Knights' next men's soccer coach beginning immediately.
