Frostburg State Junior Rodrigo Valenzuela and Salisbury Senior Daniel Brennan Earn CAC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards
YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State junior Rodrigo Valenzuela and Salisbury senior Daniel Brennan earned CAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades for Sept. 26, 2016.

Frostburg State junior Rodrigo Valenzuela was tabbed as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Bobcats' 5-0 CAC-opening victory over Wesley. Valenzuela scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 38th minute of play, before assisting on the second goal in the 75th minute, and tallying Frostburg State's third goal in the 76th minute.

Salisbury senior Daniel Brennan earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after collecting five saves and not conceding a goal in 163:20 minutes of action last week against Eastern and Southern Virginia. He played the full 90 minutes against Southern Virginia to earn the solo shutout. Brennan now boasts a scoreless streak of 223:03 on the season.

Christopher Newport moved down one spot to No. 9 in the Sept. 20 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings ... CAC play kicked off on Saturday, with Christopher Newport, Frostburg State, Mary Washington, St. Mary's, and Salisbury each posting shutouts ... CNU's Patrick Burns set up the game-winning goal and then added an insurance goal against York in the CAC opener. CNU has registered multiple goals in all but one contest this season and the Captains rank in the nation's top five in total goals and points scored ... Mary Washington, ranked ninth by the NSCAA in the South Atlantic region, bounced back from a 3-1 loss at Dickinson to blank Marymount, 2-0, in the CAC opener on Saturday, with sophomore Ryan Van Maanen scoring the game-winner ... Penn State Harrisburg junior Nnamdi Ikeazor scored twice against Shenandoah in a 3-2 win ... St. Mary's Nick Tait tallied the equalizer at 84:57 in the 3-2 loss at Swarthmore before notching the insurance goal in a 2-0 win at Penn State Harrisburg. Tait is now in sole possession of fifth all-time at St. Mary's with 76 (28 goals, 20 assists) career points, passing Mark Zettle '92 who had 74 points (32 goals, 10 assists). Zack Haussler picked up his third shutout of the season with five saves in the 2-0 win at Penn State Harrisburg ... Salisbury's Dolph Hegewisch continued his impressive freshman season by collecting three points last week, making him the Sea Gulls leading scorer with three goals and two assists for eight points. Hegewisch did all of his damage against Southern Virginia, assisting on the game-winning goal and then adding the first insurance tally in the 3-0 victory.
