Christopher Newport and Mary Washington Register CAC Men's Soccer Semifinal Victories, Set Up Championship Rematch

CAC Men's Soccer Tournament Bracket

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington will clash for the CAC Men's Soccer Championship for the second straight year after both registered semifinal victories on Wednesday. 

In St. Mary's City, Md., third-seeded UMW (14-4-1) ousted second-seeded St. Mary's 1-0 behind a penalty kick from Colin Travis in the 34th minute of play. The victory sends the Eagles to the championship game for the second straight year and 15th time in program history. The Seahawks end the season at 11-7. 

In Newport News, Va., top-seeded CNU (14-2-1) defeated fifth-seeded Salisbury 3-0. The Captains got on the board in the 14th minute on an own goal by the Sea Gulls (8-9-3), before scoring twice in the second half to seal the win. Davis Pillow and Jimmy Grace tacked on insurance goals in the 65th and 88th minute, respectively, to send the Captains to the title game. Saturday will mark CNU's second straight and third overall CAC championship game appearance. The Captains won the title in 2014 and 2016. 

Saturday's matchup in Newport News is set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
