Four CAC Teams Compete In Weekend Swimming Invitationals
Four CAC men's and women's swim programs competed successfully in weekend invitationals at Kutztown University, Rowan University and Randolph-Macon College.
The Frostburg State University men's swimming team earned a
commanding win and the women's team finished sixth after the final
day of competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at
Randolph-Macon College, Saturday.
The FSU men totaled 511 points and outlasted both Hood College
(441) and Mary Washington (74). The women earned a total of 142
points and bested both Mary Washington (102) and Emory & Henry
(77). The Bobcat women finished 17 points behind fifth place
College of Notre Dame.
Sophomore Caleb Stair (Hyndman, Pa./Hyndman) kick
started the second day for the men's side as he won the 100-yard
butterfly in 57:45. He later took home second place in the final
individual race of the meet; the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.60).
FSU won the very next event on the men's side as junior Doug
Gage (Middletown, Md./Middletown) captured the win in the
200-yard freestyle in 2:03.38. Freshmen Tyler Lydon (St.
Marys County, Md./Leonardtown) finished second in the 200 freestyle
less than three seconds behind Gage (2:06.04). Lyndon later
captured runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (52.38).
Senior Bill Ford (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) captured the
final win for the men in the 30th event; the 200-yard backstroke.
He touched the wall in 2:16.67 while sophomore Bob Norr
(Darnestown, Md./Northwest) recorded second place with a time of
2:27.60. The duo also competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Norr
finished third (18:49.36) while Ford was fourth (19:07.69).
The Bobcat men didn't stop at the individual events as they turned
in excellent efforts in the relays. The team of Ford, Norr, Gage
and Stair won the 800-yard freestyle in 7:58.24 while the same
foursome took home second in the 400-yard freestyle (3:34.39).

The Salisbury University men's and women's swim teams wrapped up competition in the second and final day of the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday, with the men finishing in third place and the women taking home a fifth place finish.
The men's side finished solidly in third place, earning 414 points throughout the two-day meet. Senior Joe Wisda notched a third-place finish, in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 55.91 seconds. Freshman James Gough also finished third in his event, the 100-yard backstroke, in 57.37 seconds. Later on in the afternoon, Wisda teamed up with junior Jason Preston, senior Tim Metcalf and sophomore Paul Zoli; together, the foursome took home bronze in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:26.69).
The women's side also saw several impressive finishes, led by sophomore Sarah Ault, whose time of 1:04.08 in the 100-yard butterfly earned her third place in the event. Additionally, freshman Danielle Dunn earned a pair of fifth-place finishes (200-yard breaststroke, 2:37.77; 50-yard freestyle, 26.70 seconds). The team wrapped up the day with 213 points, 172 points ahead of sixth-place Post University and just 46 points shy of fourth-place Montclair State University

The York College men's swimming team competed at the Rowan Cup on Saturday at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J as the Spartans collected 14 top-five finishes.
Jamie Hicks provided the Green and White with an outstanding showing at the Cup. The junior tallied York's best finish of the day as he recorded a second-place time in the 200 breaststroke. Hicks pierced through the water in 2:22.41 to snag the runner-up time. He would also take third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.68.
York put together quality finishes in both breaststroke events. In the 200, Steve Yeager notched a 2:23.65 to take third while Tyler Ziegler's 2:24.14 placed him fourth. Steven Mercer registered a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.87.
In addition to his top-five mark in the 100 breast, Mercer's best finish came in the 400 IM. The talented sophomore swam to a 4:36.57 to capture third in the event.
The York College women's swimming team had an strong showing at Saturday's Rowan Cup hosted by Rowan University. The Spartans recorded seven top-five finishes, including two relays, in the non-scoring meet.
Michaela Guild put together York's best finish as the talented junior registered the victory in the 1,650 freestyle with an 18:39.58. Guild, who bested ten other swimmers in the distance event, won the race by over 15 seconds and is only five seconds off her 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Championships time where she placed fifth.
Fellow junior Kathy Murphy notched a second-place finish of her own in the 200 backstroke. Murphy registered a 2:23.31 as she continues to post quality finishes this season.
