The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams provided dominant performances at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, extending their team leads heading into day three of the championships on Sunday.

The 11-time defending champion UMW men's team has 655 team points through 12 of the 18 events in the three-day championship.  Host St. Mary's (363) is battling York (334.5) for second place, followed by Salisbury (288.5), Hood (170), Marymount (151) and Frostburg State (60).

In the women's team standings, UMW (622.5) has a smaller-than normal lead over second-place St. Mary's (446) after 12 events.  Marymount (289) is in third place, but York (246.5) and Salisbury (203) are in pursuit, followed by Hood (123) and Frostburg State (94).

The Eagle men touched first in every race on Saturday night. Winners included the 200 free relay (Alex Anderson, Nick Eckhoff, Peter Slattery, Billy Norfolk) at 1:25.86; Anderson in the 400 IM with an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time and new CAC and meet record of 3:57.73; Norfolk in the 100 butterfly at 50.82 (in an event UMW finished 1-2-3); Eckhoff in the 200 freestyle with a new CAC and meet record of 1:41.47; Slattery in the 100 breaststroke at 58.38; Tom Rinaldi in the 100 backstroke at 52.80; and the 800 free relay (Anderson, Eckhoff, Slattery, Norfolk) at 6:54.44.

St. Mary's placed second in five of Saturday's seven championship races, including both relays.  Individually, sophomore Thor Petersen earned a silver medal in the 400 IM, junior Cameron Hedquist was second in the 200 freestyle and junior Billy DeBoissiere was second in the 100 breaststroke.  Those three, along with freshman Jackson Holden, combined for runner up honors in the 800 freestyle relay - the last race of Saturday night's competition.  DeBoissiere and Hedquist were half of the second-place 200 medley relay.

Eagle women saw wins from the 200 free relay (Lindsay Ancellotti, Megan DeSmit, Kelly Scott, Jessica Singer) at 1:49.50; Amber Kerico in the 100 butterfly with a privisional NCAA time of 57.45 (in an event UMW went 1-2-3-4); Robin Brazier in the 200 freestyle at 1:57.37; Megan DeSmit in the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA provisional time and new CAC and meet record of 1:05.28; and the 800 free relay (DeSmit, Brazier, Kerico, Alex Parrish) at 7:52.87.

St. Mary's was strong in the 400 IM, with winner Kelly Heyde and runner up Brooke Raab helping the Seahawks claim four of the top six positions in the championship chase.

Marymount senior Anna Macedonia (first in 100 backstroke), York junior Chelsea Ross (2nd in 200 freestyle) and Salisbury sophomore Danielle Dunn (3rd in 100 breaststroke) all earned medals for their performances in individual events Saturday.
