Mary Washington Men's Swimming Opens Dual Meet Season Stretch Run With Wins Over St. Mary's And Frostburg State
The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team won a dual-dual meet against Frostburg State University and St. Mary's College on Friday afternoon in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles beat the Seahawks, 124-81, and the Bobcats, 173-17.
St. Mary's gained a split with a 167-21 victory over FSU.
Winners for the Eagle men included the 400 yard medley relay (consisting of Nick Eckhoff, Austin Clark, Billy Norfolk, Alex Anderson) with a time of 3:33.86; Anderson in the 50 yard freestyle at 21.48 seconds and the 200 breaststroke at 2:07.92; Peter Slattery in the 200 IM at 2:04.02; Norfolk in the 200 yard butterfly at 1:54.85; Clark in the 100 yard freestyle at 49.50; and the 400 freestyle relay (consisting of Andrew Cole, Eckhoff, Clark, and Chuckie Zumbaugh) at 3:17.35.
Junior Cameron Hedquist was the only multiple winner for the Seahawks as Hedquist started the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.60. Sophomore Thor Petersen came in second in 1:48.51. Hedquist's second win came in the 500 freestyle as he touched the wall first in 4:51.37 while first-year Jackson Holden finished third in 5:11.39.
In Saturday's action, Mary Washington and Marymount travel for a tri-meet at Salisbury and York visits non-conference foe Ursinus.
Saturday's meet featuring Hood at Frostburg State was postponed until Sunday (1/15).
