Mary Washington's Eckhoff And Anderson Win Twice For Second-Straight Day At CAC Men's Swim Championships
Mary Washington's Nick Eckhoff and Hugh Anderson each won an individual event, then combined to form half of a winning relay team to end the evening's competitions, to lead the CAC Men's Swimming Championship Competition Saturday.
Mary Washington built its lead in the chase for the team title, totaling 693 points after two days. St. Mary's is second with 431, followed by York (274), Salisbury (267), Marymount (172) and Frostburg State (106).
Eckhoff, who won the 500 freestyle on Friday, took top honors in the 200 freestyle Saturday, then anchored the gold medal 800 freestyle relay team in the last event of the night.
Anderson was the gold medalist in the 50 freestyle Friday, won the 100 butterfly by more than two seconds Saturday, then swam the lead off leg for the 800 freestyle relay team. UMW swept the top six places in the 50 freestyle.
Sophomore Michael Yelmgren touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke (51.38), giving UMW four wins in seven events Saturday.
St. Mary's won two of the seven men's races Saturday, starting with the 200 medley relay - just outtouching York for the crown by three tenths of a second. Sophomore Thor Petersen followed that in the next event with a win in the 400 IM (4:14.55).
Freshman Kyle Walthall picked up York's first gold medal of the weekend championship in the 100 breaststroke (57.07).
