Frostburg State's Christian March Posts Top 200 Breaststroke Time in Division III; St. Mary's Wins Third Straight

Frostburg State sophomore Christian March posted a record-breaking performance in the 200 breaststroke with the top time in the nation, while St. Mary's extended its winning streak to three with victories over McDaniel and SUNY Delhi this weekend to headline men's swimming action around the CAC.

Marymount went 1-1 with a win over Gallaudet and a loss to Randolph-Macon, York dropped a non-conference contest to Dickinson and Frostburg State and Salisbury competed in invitationals.

March provided the highlight for Frostburg State at the F&M Invitational, breaking a school record and meet record in the 200 breaststroke. March's winning time of 2:03.91 broke his own school record that he set last February, and currently stands as the fastest in Division III this season and is also an NCAA "B" cut and an ECAC "A" cut.

St. Mary's improved to 6-3 on the year this weekend, beginning with a 55-40 triumph at McDaniel on Friday. Junior Matt Walchuck won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle to pace the Seahawks. In a 161-24 romp over SUNY Delhi, senior captain Michael Speer and junior Andrew Braker each garnered three gold medals to lead the Seahawks.

Marymount defeated Gallaudet 111-41 on Friday, led by senior Matt Essig, who finished on top in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. On Saturday, the Saints fell to Randolph-Macon 155-90 to slip to 2-3 on the year. Junior Tyler Hayes had the lone top individual placing for Marymount in the 50 freestyle, while also contributing to the winning 200 medley relay.

York surrendered a 125-75 defeat to Dickinson on the road on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kyle Walthall captured second-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Salisbury finished second at the two-day Swarthmore Invitational with 856.5 points, behind only Swarthmore at 1,103 points. Freshman Peter Moyer led the Sea Gulls with three first-place finishes, claiming individual titles in the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle.
