No. 5 York Downs No. 4 Penn State Harrisburg in CAC Men's Tennis First Round

Fifth-seeded York upended fourth-seeded Penn State Harrisburg 6-3 in the first round of the CAC Men's Tennis Tournament on Saturday, advancing the Spartans to Tuesday's semifinals. 

The Spartans improve to 11-6 overall as they advance to face top-seeded Mary Washington in Tuesday's semifinals. The Lions see their season come to an end with a mark of 7-7.

Tuesday's other semifinal features third-seeded Christopher Newport at second-seeded Salisbury. 

York opened the match with doubles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Matt Rosenkrantz and Jake Greenstein earned a 9-7 win at No. 2, while Zach Hanson and Rory Handlin cruised to an 8-1 triumph at No. 3. The Penn State Harrisburg duo of Chris Magee and Mitchell Ebersole posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 to keep the Lions within a 2-1 deficit heading into singles. 

The Spartans earned four wins in the six singles matches en route to the 6-3 victory. Rosenkrantz (No. 3), Kaltrin Bullaj (No. 4) and Hanson (No. 6)posted straight-set singles wins for York, while Greenstein outlasted Jhonny Xue 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-5 at No. 2 singles in the closest matchup of the day. 

In non-conference action, 18th-ranked Mary Washington dropped a tight 5-4 decision to 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. The Eagles close out the regular season at 18-5. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play, as Andrew Curtis and David Lunding-Johansson winning at three, 8-3, and Tyler Carey and Evan Charles winning at one, 9-8 (3).

In singles, Stratton Gilmore won at two, 6-2, 6-4, and Lunding-Johansson won at three, 6-4, 6-3. The number one singles match went three sets, but Carey fell, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
