Mary Washington Men's Tennis Season Comes to a Close with 5-3 Loss to Trinity (Texas) in NCAA Third Round

The Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped a 5-3 decision to seventh-ranked Trinity (Texas) in the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at the Edward Hegmann Courts. The Eagles close the year with a 21-6 record.

The Eagles started doubles play with a loss at two, but rebounded with convincing 8-4 wins from Tyler Carey and Evan Charles at one and David Lunding-Johansson and Andrew Curtis at three.

Leading 2-1 heading into singles play, Trinity responded by taking the first set in the top five flights. UMW's Eric Hurwitz won a 7-5, 7-5 decision to give the Eagles their third point, but wins at three, four, five, and one gave the Tigers the win. The wins at five and one came in second set tiebreakers.

Carey will advance to the NCAA Singles Championship on May 21-23 in Cincinnati, Ohio, while Carey and Charles will advance to the doubles championship.
