Southern Virginia Tops St. Mary's, 6-3, in CAC Men's Tennis First Round
Fourth-seeded Southern Virginia earned a 6-3 victory over fifth-seeded St. Mary's in the first round of the CAC Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon.
With the victory, the Knights advance to the CAC semifinals, where they will face top-seeded Mary Washington on Wednesday. Second-seeded Christopher Newport will host third-seeded Salisbury in the other semifinal.
Tyler Clark, TJ Snelson, Dallin Evans, and Justin Fullmer all picked up singles wins for the Knights (11-9, 4-3 CAC). Clark won 6-4 and 7-5 against Mark Hardesty. Snelson lost the first set 6-4 but won the next two by a score of 6-1. Evans swept Wyatt Paulishak 6-0 and 6-2. Fullmer beat Bryon Dickerson 6-2 and 6-1. Brennan Alford lost to Nick Ersoy by 6-3 and 6-1. Kjell Henness fell 6-2 and 6-3 to Connor McKissick.
The Seahawks (7-10, 3-4 CAC) took the win at No. 1 doubles when Hardesty and McKissick beat Snelson and Fullmer 8-6. Clark and Henness beat Troy Spurrier and Bishop 8-5 at the No. 2 spot. Evans and Alford won by a score of 8-3 against Ersoy and Kyle Van Winter at No. 3.
