St. Mary's Men's Tennis Tops Penn State Harrisburg, 8-1
The St. Mary's men's tennis team came off of a week's rest to defeat Penn State Harrisburg, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon in St. Mary's City, Md. The Seahawks even their record at 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the CAC with the win, while the Lions drop to 6-4, 1-2.
Senior Nick Ersoy and sophomore Kyle Van Winter posted the closest match of them all at No. 3 doubles, winning 9-7 over first-years Ethan Finger and Marco Guerrero.
Senior captain Mark Hardesty and sophomore Connor McKissick notched an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles followed by seniors Robert Bishop and Troy Spurrier with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
As the match shifted to singles play, the Seahawks kept the pedal to the floor and picked up wins in five of the next six matches to take home the victory. The Nittany Lions' lone point came from senior Tyler Cook at No. 2 singles who won the first set, 7-5, and was up 2-0 in the second before Bishop was forced to retire.
A busy slate of CAC men's tennis action is set for this Saturday, with three matchups across the conference.
