York Men's Tennis Tops Southern Virginia 5-3 in CAC First Round
Fifth-seeded York downed fourth-seeded Southern Virginia 5-3 in the opening round of the CAC Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday in Buena Vista, Va. With the win, the Spartans advance to Tuesday's semifinals vs. top-seeded Mary Washington.
Tuesday's other semifinal will feature third-seeded Salisbury at second-seeded Christopher Newport, with the title match slated for Friday, April 21 at the highest remaining seed.
In Friday's first round, York captured the No. 2 and 3 doubles points to jump out to an early edge. At No. 2 doubles, Ben Sentz and Sam Price defeated SVU's Tanner Bassett and Jake Fisher 8-2, while Joel Hess and Lukas Olson downed Tyler Clark and Weston Snelson 8-1 at No. 3. Southern Virginia took the point at No. 1, as T.J. Snelson and Zac Bowers defeated Sam Innerst and Devin Lehigh 8-2.
In singles play, York earned wins at the No. 2, 5, and 6 spots to claim the 5-3 win. Sentz edged T.J. Snelson at No. 2 in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0, Price downed Fisher at No. 5, 6-4, 6-0, and Olson defeated Philip Soelberg 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
