UMW’s Rein, CNU’s Schaefer Seize C2C Tennis Player of the Week Laurels
The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2026 spring tennis season. Mary Washington's Trevor Rein earned C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport's Kylie Schaefer claimed C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week merit.
MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trevor Rein, Mary Washington
Mary Washington junior Trevor Rein helped the #23 Eagles to a pair of season-opening wins on Saturday over Shenandoah and #35 Franklin & Marshall. The junior scored a 6-2 win at one doubles with Asher Willenborg against the Hornets, and followed with a 6-4 doubles win against the Diplomats as well as a tight 7-6 (2), 6-4 win at one singles over Luke Brodsky as the Eagles gained a 5-2 team win.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kylie Schaefer, Christopher Newport
Christopher Newport junior Kylie Schaefer helped the Captains open the season with wins against RIT (7-0) and Averett (7-0). Playing with Lindsey Bergelin at No. 1 doubles, Schaefer cruised to a pair of wins; the duo defeated Emily Greb and Kira Kronenberg (RIT), 6-2, and Elisa Battermann and Dilara Sultanova (AU), 6-1. In singles play, Schaefer played one match at No. 1 and one at No. 2 -- she defeated Greb (RIT) on the top line, 6-3, 6-2; and she took down Harshri Asher (AU) at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS
Salisbury's newly-minted No. 1 singles and doubles player Gurv Suri led the charge for the Sea Gulls in a season-opening win over Goucher on Sunday. In first doubles, he and Aron Bursztyn prevailed with ease, 6-2. In first singles, Suri made it a perfect day by sweeping Gabe Naftoly 6-0, 6-4… Christopher Newport's Vincent Truong helped lead CNU to three wins to start the season with victories against Division I Hampton University (6-1), RIT (5-2), and #36 Averett (7-0). Against The DI Pirates, Truong paired with Barrett Foster for a 7-6 (3) win at No. 1 doubles to help the Captains clinch the doubles point. The duo also defeated Averett's top pair, 6-2, as CNU swept the Cougars. In singles play, Truong went 2-1 with his only loss coming to Hampton's Tshion Federov in a close match (7-5, 6-2). Against DIII competition, Truong downed Evan Ly from RIT (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) and Julius Bert from Averett (6-1,6-3). All three singles bouts came at No. 2… Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon produced a strong showing at the top of the Sea Gull lineup on Saturday against Stevens. In first doubles, she and Cleo Solomon sweated out a 7-5 victory. In first singles, she dropped a narrow 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 result… Junior Addison Felts led #37 Mary Washington to a 7-0 win over Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday in the Eagles' spring opener. First, she teamed with Natalie Kim for a 6-1 win at one doubles, helping the Eagles weep all three doubles matches. Then she scored a 6-1, 6-0 win at one singles, as the Eagles swept all six singles matches.
