Salisbury Men's Track & Field Wins 12 Events On The Way To 13th CAC Championship

Thrower Jay Drenner won three events and teammate Matthew Hallenbeck caputred two golds as Salisbury won 12 of 20 events on the way to the 2012 CAC Men's Track & Field Championship.

The Sea Gulls won their 13th team title with 253 points, easily outdistancing defending champion York (108) for the crown.  Mary Washington (86) edged host Frostburg State (81) for third place while Hood and Wesley tied for fifth place, each with 41 points.  Stevenson (9) rounded out the scoring in the seven-team meet.

Drenner captured gold medals in the shot put, discus and hammer throws, leading all competitors.   Teammate Dylan Burkett added second place finishes in the discus and hammer along with a fourth-place finish in the shot put.

Hallenbeck took top honors in the 1,500 and 800 runs, and had second place support from John Fitzgerald in the 1,500 and Thomas Burke in the 800.

Other Salisbury gold medalists included Paul Herbert in the triple jump, Joshua Mathis in the high jump, Chris Barnard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Richard Newman in the 400-meter dash and Devon Hopkins in the 400-meter hurdles.  The Sea Gulls also won both relay races.

Wesley's Matt Bundy picked up a pair of first-place awards in the 110 hurdles, 200-meter dash and added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash.

York competitors combined for four first-place finishes by Phil Cavaluchi in the long jump, Alexander Aponte in the javelin, Steve Childress in the 10,000-meter run and Tim Hartung in the 5,000-meter run.

Other individual gold medalists include Hood's Chris DiGangi in the pole vault and Frostburg State's Patrick Pinchinat in the 100-meter dash.
