Christopher Newport Men's Track & Field Earns Second Straight CAC Outdoor Championship

Christopher Newport captured its second straight CAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship with nine individual titles in the 20 events on Saturday at Mary Washington. 

Combining the indoor and outdoor seasons, CNU has now captured four consecutive CAC track & field crowns. The Captains totaled 263 points to run away with the team title, out-distancing runner-up Salisbury (154.5) by over 100 points. Wesley (85) edged Mary Washington (78.5) for third, followed by York (68), Frostburg State (66), Penn State Harrisburg (52), and Southern Virginia (8) in fifth through eighth, respectively. 

Five championship meet records fell during the two-day competition, including a pair of CNU performers. CNU's Peyton Artz broke the meet record in the 5,000 meters at 15:07.44, while Jonathan Graham set a new championship pole vault mark at 4.67 meters. 

Other championship meet records were set by Salisbury's Eric Halton in the 400 (48.11), Mary Washington's Jeff Gibson in the 10,000 (31:14.01), and York's Alex Smith in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:21.78).  

Ryan Scott led the champion Captains with a trio of top placings in the 100 (10.89), 200 (22.22), and 110 hurdles sprint events. Also claiming individual gold for CNU were Cullen Monahan in the 800 (1:55.16), Billy Rabil in the 1,500, Dominique Torres in the triple jump (14.11m), and Brendan Burrows in the discus (49.25m)

Frostburg State's J.R. Lowery won a pair of events, taking top honors in the shot put (17.21m) for the second straight year and the hammer throw (53.20m) for the third straight time. 

York's Rick Jones placed first in the 400 hurdles at 56.32 and Salisbury's Jeff McInnis claimed top honors in the long jump at 7.04 meters. 

Penn State Harrisburg was led by gold-medal finishes from Joseph Rebarchak in the javelin (52.34m) and Alex White in the high jump (1.90m). 

In the relays, the Wesley 4x100 quartet of Patrick SchlosserJohnny CrenshawDaJahn Lowery and Greg Taylor won the event with a time of 42.15 seconds. In the 4x400, Salisbury's team of Zach Schmelz, Justin Moultrie, Tyler Hardman, and Halton won at 3:22.70.
