Mary Washington 5th, York 9th at Dickinson Long/Short Men's Cross Country Invitational
Mary Washington finished fifth overall and York placed ninth at the 2011 Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational men's cross country meet.
In two men's races (8K and 4K), UMW totaled 167 points, just two behind fourth-place Muhlenberg and three points behind third-place Johns Hopkins. York's 232 points was just one point behind eighth-place Susquehanna.
Mary Washington, split the squad into an 8K race and a 4K race, saw Sean Healy as its top finisher in the long event, finishing at 27:55, followed by Chris Marino at 28:13 and Kyle Anderson at 28:18. In the 4k event, Stephen Harrison was UMW's top finisher at 13:00, followed by Daniel Ache at 13:27 and Julian Menk at 13:29.
In the short course portion, Tim Hartung ran a tremendous 12:42 to take fourth overall out of the 166 competitors. Hartung, who is only in his sophomore campaign with the Green and White, was only seven seconds off the winning time of 12:35. John Wallace was the second York runner to cross the finish line as he posted a 13:12. That time allotted the sophomore 23rd-place overall, while junior Steven Childres recorded a 13:18 to snag 29th.Matt Smith and Craig Eppler also put together solid races for the Spartan squad. Smith ran to a 61st-place 13:50 while Eppler's 13:55 landed him in 68th.In the long course event, Wil Murray led the way for the Green and White as he ran to a quality 29:09 to take 76th out of the 184 participants.
Stevenson participated in just the men's long course race, finishing 20th out of 21 teams.
Frostburg State placed 15th out of 21 in the short course race.
