Salisbury Softball Set for Return Trip to NCAA Championship
The Salisbury softball team is set for its third straight NCAA Division III Championship appearance, with competition beginning on Thursday in Salem, Va. The fourth-ranked Sea Gulls will open the eight-team national championship tournament against DePauw Thursday at 4 p.m.
The 2015 National Championship begins Thursday and concludes either next Monday or Tuesday. All games will be played at the Moyer Complex in Salem, Va.
This will mark Salisbury's ninth overall appearance at the NCAA National Championships. The Sea Gulls finished third in 2013 and as the national runner-up last season, falling to Tufts in the best-of-three championship round.
The Sea Gulls (35-6) defeated CAC rival Christopher Newport in the Super Regional round last weekend to advance to the final eight. DePauw (34-15) erased a seven-run deficit in its third and decisive game against Moravian, eventually winning 10-7 in game three to earn a championship bid.
In addition to Salisbury and DePauw, the eight competing teams include Kean, second-ranked Texas-Tyler, Linfield, 15th-ranked Alfred, Alma and top-ranked and defending-national champion Tufts.
