INTRODUCING ... Marymount University Senior Women's Basketball Point Guard Terell White
This week's INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete is Marymount University women's basketball point guard Terell White, a four-year starter for the eighth-ranked and undefeated Saints. White was a 2008 member of the All-CAC team and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Marymount-Marine Corps. Tip-Off Tournament.
What is your background in the sport you play? I have been playing basketball since I was five. My dad introduced me to the game and I have had many influences since. I have played other sports (soccer and softball), however, basketball has always been my number one love.
What is your favorite spot on campus? Well I have two favorite spots. The first is the gym of course. I love to play basketball but I also love to watch other event that go on in there. I enjoy watching the men's basketball team play, intramural sports and they hold many events and concerts in which I attend. Second, I love to hang out in the dorms because it's always fun to have all your friends next door you. We have movie night, we cook dinner and play games and it is never a hassle to see them every day because we live so close.
Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life (and why)? The influential person in my life is Marymount assistant basketball coach Stephanie Witko. She has been with me since I was a freshman and through all my complaining and stubborn ways, she has never given up on me. I played with her when she was a player at Marymount and she was and still is the hardest worker I know. She has a positive energy that gets me through tough times on and off the court. I can call her anytime and I know she will always be there for me.
What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline? My major is communication and the most important discipline I have learned is how to communicate with different people on every level. It has really helped me as a point guard because I am able communicate to each of my teammates and relate to them all. I understand each of my teammates and I know all of their tendencies which helps on and off the court.
If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be? I would tell elementary school children to practice their skills and try multiple sports. Don't get stuck doing one sport your whole life.
What is your favorite form of entertainment? Sports is my favorite form of entertainment. I love to watch football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, golf, boxing, track and field, and my favorite is watching the Olympics.
Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team (and why)? I love Payton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts because of the way he runs his team. He has an amazing ability to take control of the game and his team believes in his talent. He leads his team and in my opinion, the best quarterback in the National Football League.
