Marymount's Katelyn Fischer And York's Brittany Hicks Named WBCA Honorable Mention All-Americans
Marymount senior guard Katelyn Fischer and York junior forward Brittany Hicks were honorable mention picks for the 2013 WBCA NCAA Division III women's basketball All-America team.
Fischer earned All-America honors for the second-straight season
after collecting honorable mention accolades as junior in 2011-12
as well.
Another addition to her already impressive résumé,
Fischer was also recently named the D3Hoops.com Atlantic Region
Player of the Year on Wednesday and tabbed the Capital Athletic
Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
She was also selected as one of the 11 finalists for the
prestigious Jostens Trophy, awarded to the top Division III
men’s and women’s basketball player in the nation.
Fischer led the Saints to a 24-5 record, their 12th Capital
Athletic Conference championship and 17th appearance in the NCAA
Division III Tournament. She averaged 16.4 points, 5.3
assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game while shooting at a
46.7 percent clip from the
floor. She was also one of the national leaders in three-point
shooting at 42 percent.
In the classroom, Fischer was named First Team Capital One/CoSIDA
Academic All-America, the first Marymount player to achieve the
feat. A business major, she owns a stellar 3.97 grade point average
and was named the Marymount Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a
junior, CAC All-Academic and VaSID Academic All-State.
Hicks, who earned first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference honors three week ago, was one of two conference players to earn first-team honors and one of three CAC players overall on the three squads.
Hicks finished the year leading the Spartans in scoring and rebounding as she averaged 16.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She shot 44.3% from the floor and converted 75% of her attempts from the free throw line. Hicks made a conference-high 188 trips to the free throw line as she led the CAC in free throw attempts and made free throws for the third straight year.
Hicks finished tied for second in the CAC in scoring, was second in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage, and seventh in free throw percentage.
The Spartan junior recorded 15 double-doubles, the 18th highest total in the nation. She tied the highest scoring output in the CAC with a career-high 32 points in the February 13 game at Mary Washington while she pulled in a career-high 18 rebounds in the February 9 win over Wesley. She became the 14th member of the York College 1,000 career point club in that February win over Wesley.
Hicks enters her senior year having scored 1,086 career points with 682 rebounds, 499 free throw attempts, 143 assists, and 101 steals. She is a two-time All-CAC selection after being a second team selection as a sophomore.
