Second-Ranked Salisbury Stops Christopher Newport, 17-5, But 9th-Ranked York Falls To Franklin & Marshall, 10-9, In NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament Second Round
Second-round Salisbury continued its charge to returning to the NCAA championship game with a 17-5 victory over future CAC rival Christopher Newport Saturday in the second round of the national championship tournament. In the second half of the DH at SU, ninth-ranked York fell one-goal short of a rematch vs. the Gulls, finishing the season with a 10-9 setback vs. Franklin & Marshall.
The No. 2 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team advanced to tomorrow's NCAA tournament quarterfinal with a 17-5 win over No. 15 Christopher Newport University, Saturday morning at Sea Gull Stadium. Senior Lauren Feusahrens netted five goals in the contest to lead the Salisbury (20-0) attack. Her fourth goal of the contest moved her into fourth place on the all-time goals scored list in program history, passing current assistant coach Allie Wheatley on the all-time list.
Franklin & Marshall's Maggie Mae Shields converted a free position opportunity with 30 seconds left in regulation to lift the Diplomats past the York College women's lacrosse team in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 at Salisbury University on Saturday. The Spartans conclude the season with a mark of 14-5. The Diplomats improve to 16-4 and advance to face second-ranked Salisbury in the regional finals on Sunday afternoon.
