Salisbury Advances to NCAA Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinals; Mary Washington Knocked Out by Trinity (Conn.)
The Salisbury women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 12th time in the last 13 years with a home victory over Colorado College on Saturday, while Mary Washington saw its season come to a close with a defeat at Trinity (Conn.).
In Salisbury, Md., the host Sea Gulls (18-2) downed Colorado College, 17-7, to advance to Sunday's regional final. Third-ranked Salisbury will meet sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall (20-2), an 11-9 winner over 13th-ranked Brockport State, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Allie Hynson led the Sea Gulls with a career-high five points on the day, tallying three goals and two assists, while Gabbie Nieves also notched three goals. Junior Kieran Kelleher led the SU defense with a game-high four groundballs, and Gianna Falcone tallied eight saves in front of the net for the Gulls.
In Hartford, Conn., 16th-ranked Mary Washington fell to seventh-ranked Trinity (Conn.) 13-5 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the Eagles' season at 15-5. Trinity will meet TCNJ in the Elite 8 on Sunday.
Ashlyn Dacey (2 goals) and Mackenzie Maguire (1 goals, 1 assist) had two points each for UMW, while sophomore defender Kirsten Littlefield won three draw controls, and rookie backstop Hanna Ashby made six saves in the Eagles goal.
