Four CAC Women's Soccer Players Named To NSCAA All-Region Team

Four CAC women's soccer players, including Lauren Carrier and Sophie Esparza of conference champion St. Mary's, were named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All Mid-Atlantic Region team.

Carrier, a senior forward who was named the conference Player of the Year by the CAC coaches, along with Esparza, a junior midfielder, and York senior defender Kali Macgregor, were named to the NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic Region second team.  Mary Washington senior forward Hannah Pearson was a third-team All-Region selection.

All four players were previously named to the All-CAC first team for at least the second time in their careers.

Carrier was a first-team All-CAC player in 2006 while Pearson was a first-team choice in 2007.  Macgregor is a three-time CAC all-star (first team in 2007 & '08; second team in '06) while Esparza is a three-time first-team all-conference player and was the CAC Rookie of the Year in 2006.

Carrier is a two-time All-CAC First Team (2006, 2008) pick after leading the Seahawks this season with 29 points in 12 games played on a team-high 13 goals and three assists.  The 5-5 forward, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on October 15 versus Virginia Wesleyan College, also led the conference with 2.42 points per game and 1.08 goals per game.

A 2006 All-CAC First Team honoree, she tallied a career-high four goals and eight points in a 4-0 win at Hood College.  Carrier was tied for second in the CAC with a team-leading three game-winning goals, while also being second in points and goals and sixth in assists per game with 0.25.

Carrier finished her four-year career with 56 points on 24 goals and eight assists in 61 games played with 34 starts.  She also notched six game-winning goals.

A three-time All-CAC First Team selection, Esparza was the second-leading scorer for St. Mary's with 27 points on 11 goals and a team-best five assists.  In the CAC, the 5-7 midfielder ranked tied for second in game-winning goals (3), third in points per game (1.59), tied for fourth in goals, fourth in goals per game (0.65), tied for fifth in assists, fifth in assists per game (0.29), and sixth in points.

She registered career-bests of three goals and seven points in a 6-1 win at Wesley College.  Esparza recorded two hat tricks this season as she also tallied three goals in a victory over Gallaudet University.

Macgregor receives her second regional selection after being chosen to the third-team last year. In 2008, the senior tri-captain was a defensive stalwart for the green and white, controlling the middle of York's defensive third of the field.

The leader of a unit that only allowed 0.8 goals per game this season, Macgregor's excellence in the air combined with her tough style of play provided the Spartans with quality defensive efforts.

Pearson scored a team-leading 16 points on seven goals and two assists, helping the Eagles to fourth place in the regular-season standings and a berth in the CAC Tournament semifinals, where they finished the season with an 8-6-5 overall record.  She led UMW and tied for 11th place in the CAC this season in goals.
