Stevenson And Frostburg State Win At Home Tuesday To Advance To 2010 CAC Women's Soccer Championship Match

Stevenson and Frostburg State, the top two teams in the regular season, both won home matches Tuesday to advance to the 2010 CAC Women's Soccer Championship match.

The Mustangs, hosting the title match for the second-straight year, and Bobcats, in their first year as members of the CAC, will play Saturday (11/6) at 1 p.m. in Owings Mills, Md.

In Tuesday's semifinal at Stevenson, Mustang senior Allison Humphries scored the
game-winning goal against Salisbury for the second time this season in a 2-0 victory over the fifth-seeded Sea Gulls.

Humphries scored in the 63rd minute, and junior Stephanie Eyler added an insurance tally in the 85th minute, for Stevenson (11-6-1), the top seed in the 2010 playoffs and two-time regular-season champs.  Salisbury finishes the season with an 8-12 record.

In the other semifinal at Frostburg State, Amanda Wharton and Adria Graham each scored within a seven-minute span midway through the first half, and the second-seeded Bobcats (15-3) held off third-seeded St. Mary's (6-8-3) for a 2-1 victory.   Yvonne Latour ruined FSU's shutout attempt with a second-half goal for SMC.

In the regular-season meeting of the two teams (10/13), Stevenson defended home turf with a 2-1 decision.  Mustang senior Heather Redding scored her sixth goal of the season, including her fourth game-winner, as the Mustangs extended their winning streak to five-straight.

Saturday's championship game winner will gain an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III women's soccer championship tournament, and the loser will be considered for a berth in either the NCAA or ECAC post-season tournaments.
