Hood Junior Women's Soccer Midfielder Jamie Bingaman Named To ESPN Academic All-District Team
Junior midfielder Jamie Bingaman earned one of 13 coveted spots on the 2010 Academic All-District II First Team presented by ESPN and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bingaman, the only CAC player named to either the ESPN men's or women's All-District soccer teams, is a three-year letterwinner for the Blazer women's soccer team who earned five starts and appeared in all 18 contests this fall. The native of Boonsboro, Md., contributed two goals and two assists on the season for six points.
Her first goal of the season came in a 5-0 win over Chatham University on Sept. 25, and she followed that up with one of Hood's two scores against Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College on Oct. 19. She was also credited with assists versus the Cougars and the LaRoche College Redhawks. Bingaman has compiled four goals and six assists for her Blazer career.
A two-time CAC all-academic team member, Bingaman is a double major in chemistry and mathematics and has made the Dean’s List every semester. She serves as a chemistry tutor and has also received numerous academic prizes and scholarships at Hood's honors convocations.
She won the 2010 George G. Kleinspehn Honor Scholarship, awarded to a student whose record in two semesters of organic chemistry at Hood is outstanding, as well as the 2009 Chemistry Achievement Award and the Margaret Louise Kleist Prize. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and interned with the Hood Summer Research Program and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) this past summer.
Student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District teams must have achieved at least sophomore academic standing, maintained a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and be a significant contributor to their team. Bingaman was the only CAC student-athlete selected to the all-district team, and by virtue of her first-team selection, advances on to the national ballot.
