Richard Möller Steps Down as St. Mary's Head Women's Soccer Coach
Scott Devine, St. Mary's College of Maryland director of athletics & recreation, announced on Monday that he has accepted head coach Richard Möller's letter of resignation. Möller is leaving St. Mary's in order to pursue a career in the private sector.
"The time has come for me to move on and concentrate on my company full-time. It has been a project of mine for quite some time and to run my own business has been a dream of mine," explained Möller. He will stay on through the end of the academic year and still run 'The Rich Möller Soccer Academy' for beginners and advanced players at St. Mary's College on July 21-25.
"I would like to thank Coach Möller for his hard work and dedication to the women's soccer team over the last two seasons, and wish him and his family nothing but the best as Rich pursues his new business venture. He leaves the program in excellent shape as we have a very talented and committed group of returning players, who will be joined by a large incoming class of exciting players," stated Devine.
In his two-year tenure, Möller guided the Seahawks to back-to-back berths in the CAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament as well as seven All-CAC selections.
Möller expressed, "First of all, I would like to thank Scott for the opportunity to coach the women's soccer program. I enjoyed every minute of it and I'm confident I am leaving the state of the program in great shape, coming off one of the best conference records in program history, a fantastic spring season with a strong core returning and with 11 new and very talented players joining the program."
St. Mary's finished third in the 2014 regular-season conference standings with a program-best six conference wins. The Seahawks overcame a lot of adversity and injuries this season en route to a 7-9-3 overall record and the right to host a CAC playoff game for the first time since 2010.
"The future for the program is bright and shiny and I am very happy to have had a part in it. I also want to thank the players for their hard work. They have been incredible and I enjoyed going to work every day because of them," continued Möller.
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
