Christopher Newport's Victoria Perry and Joy Piirto Receive NSCAA Women's Soccer All-Region Honors
Complete All-South Region Team
Christopher Newport sophomore Victoria Perry claimed her first career All-Region honor and senior Joy Piirto collected her second, as the pair of Captains represented the CAC on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All South-Atlantic Team. Perry was a second team All-Region selection, while Piirto earned third team All-Region laurels.
Perry, the 2014 CAC Player of the Year, posted the
fifth-best scoring mark in program history, with 35 points, leading
the team with 14 goals and seven assists. She finished the season
ranked third in the CAC in points, first in assists and first in
shots taken.
She also registered six game-winning goals this season, the second
best mark in CNU lore, and ranked 22nd in the nation this season.
She posted a pair of hat tricks, becoming just the fourth player in
program history to score three goals or more in a game more than
once in a single season.
Piirto is just the third player in program history to be selected
to back-to-back All-Region squads, and only the fourth repeat
selection. The senior midfielder from Charlottesville, Va. missed a
five game stretch early in the season due to a foot injury, but
stormed back onto the field as one of the Captains leading
offensive threats, battling through the injury. She finished the
season ranked second on the team in scoring, with 17 points on
seven goals and three assists, while scoring one game-winning
goal.
A big and consistent threat in the middle of the field, Piirto
also moved up top for stretches to give CNU a different look at
forward. She finished up her stellar career with 41 total points on
16 goals and nine assists.
