Perry's Two Scores Lift Christopher Newport Past Rowan in NCAA Women's Soccer First Round

NCAA Women's Soccer Bracket

Christopher Newport opened up the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament with a 3-2 triumph over Rowan in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday night.

With the victory, the Captains (17-2-1) advance to Sunday's second round, where they will meet host Johns Hopkins (16-2-2) at 5 p.m. at Homewood Field. Hopkins defeated Western Connecticut State 3-1 in the other first-round contest in Baltimore on Saturday.

Victoria Perry found the back of the net twice to lead CNU past Rowan. Rowan opened the scoring in the 24th minute, before Perry delivered the equalizer for the Captains in the 33rd minute off a feed from Shaye Doherty

Just over a minute after halftime, CNU's Gabby Gillis notched an unassisted score to put the Captains on top, 2-1. The Profs evened things up in the 63rd minute, but Perry struck once again in the 75th minute off an assist from Angie Williams for what would prove to be the game-winner.
