Christopher Newport Claims Second Consecutive Women's Indoor Track & Field Crown

Christopher Newport secured the CAC women's indoor track & field championship for the second straight year on Saturday at the Freeman Center. The Captains totaled 125 points in the victory. 

Salisbury placed second with 96 points, narrowly edging out Mary Washington (95) for runner-up honors. Wesley placed third with 75 points, followed by York (61), Frostburg State (38) and Penn State Harrisburg (6). 

Briana Stewart posted the lone individual win for CNU, taking first in the 800 meters at 2:19.57. The CNU distance medley relay team of Hannah Bullen, Kaitlynn Beaulieu, Stewart and Alexa Tabackman also posted a first-place mark, crossing in 12:53.68. 

Six championship meet records were set by four different teams on the day. Mary Washington's Teagan Young raced to new meet records in both the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters. Young broke her own mark that she set last year in the 5,000 at 18:04.65, and also set a new championship record in the 3,000 at 10:39.35. 

In the field events, Mary Washington's Claire Harrington set a new championship meet mark in the pole vault (11'-03.5"), Frostburg State's Alexis Bush broke the meet record in the long jump (17'-08.75"), and Salisbury's Christine Randall tied the meet record in the triple jump (36'-04.00"). 

Wesley's Elizsha Streeter claimed a pair of first-place finishes, taking gold in the 400 meters (1:00.26) and 200 meters (26.32). Streeter later teamed with Angel Hall, Quadira Minus and Danae Carter to win the 4x400 relay with a CAC championship record of 4:04.47. The other Wolverines to claim gold were Alexia Mitchell in the 60 meters at 7.86 and Ashley Morris in the 60 hurdles at 9.14. 

Salisbury's Paige DeMent was another double winner, capturing first in the shot put at 41'-05.00" and the weight throw at 49'-03.00".  Christine Randall and Meghan McGowan also grabbed first-place field marks for the Sea Gulls, with Randall winning the triple jump (36'-04.00") and McGowan securing gold in the high jump (5'-05.00"). 

UMW's Rachel Lewis took top honors in the mile with a time of 5:16.92.
