INTRODUCING ... York College Junior Volleyball Standout Alysse Beshore

York College junior outside hitter Alysse Beshore is the focus of this week's INTRODUCING ... feature.  Beshore is a two-year starter and outstanding blocker for the Spartan volleyball squad.

What is your background in the sport you play?    I started playing volleyball when I was in middle school, then I continued to play throughout my four years of high school.

What is your favorite spot on campus?   My favorite spot on campus is in my room.  I can get away from everything and get my work done without any interruptions.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in?  Other than volleyball, I participate in an organization called SNAP (Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania).  This is a group for nursing majors that I joined to get to know my nursing classmates better, and to gain different nursing experiences through events and shadowing.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?   I believe the biggest issue facing college students is the pressure to drink/party.  Drinking is made out to be a necessity of college students, and is seen as the easiest way to make friends.  Although there are other activities offered on campus, that is looked at as the most fun and the only thing to do after dark.

What was your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major in college is nursing.  One of the most important things I have learned from being a nursing major is time management.  Balancing athletics and school work has really made me a scheduled person.   It does get tough at times, but getting through it makes you so proud of yourself.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?    I would say one of the people who has been an influence on my life would be my friend Tori Bock.  We grew up together and always had a competitive relationship.  We pushed each other to do better than the other on the sports field and in the classroom.  We always were trying to outdo each other but at the end of the day we were great friends.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  My advice to elementary school students would be to not judge anyone and to be friends with anyone who crosses your path.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?   My favorite form of entertainment would be watching movies with my friends.  We love to sit and laugh together; it's always a good time.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  My favorite sports team would have to be the Baltimore Orioles.  I have been going to their games since I was little and have been a huge fan ever since.  I love to sport the player's jerseys during the season.  I can't wait until next season.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with.   The first person I would like to have dinner with would be Jim Carrey because I think that he would have me laughing the entire night.  Second would be my grandfather.  He passed away a few years ago and it would be so wonderful to sit and talk to him again.  Finally I would love to have dinner with my best friend Sam Lehman.  She goes to school in Texas and I never get to see her, so a dinner to catch up would be great.
