INTRODUCING ... University of Mary Washington Junior Volleyball Hitter Tola Adebanjo

University of Mary Washington junior outside hitter Tola Adebanjo is the first CAC INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete for the 2010-11 season.

Adebanjo enters her third season with the Eagles, but is trying to rebound from a season-ending knee injury, suffered in UMW's fourth match of the 2009 campaign.  Before her injury, Adebanjo boasted an outstanding .315 hitting percentage and had recorded double-digit totals in kills in four of the team's first eight matches.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I have played volleyball since the 8th grade and was a three-year varsity player in high school.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is The Underground because there is great food along with lots of activities, events and sometimes even performances!

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in?  I volunteer at the Bragg Hill family life center and I’m a member of the a capella choir and the Multicultural Fair (BSA).

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  The most important societal issue facing college students is the huge costs of college.  For example, tuition, housing, driving expenses, and in some cases insurance: students are becoming more independent, but at the same time are having a hard time getting by with the lack of job availability.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?    Biochemistry. The most important thing I have learned is that our bodies perform so many involuntary functions vital to our daily existence. We owe it to that amazing fact to take care of ourselves.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  When its time for recess…put away the IPOD, D.S, or any electronic toys  that you probably already have.  Just play. Whether its kickball, swinging, running, 4 square, or line tag; take the time to be a kid!

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is music, I love all types of music from choral arrangements for a vocal choir, to country, to rap. There is something about creativity, lyrics and a good melody or beat that just makes me happy.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   I’d like to have dinner with Michael Jackson because I would want him to teach me how to moon walk and then give me a concert!  I’d also like to have dinner with Nicholas Sparks because he has so many amazing books/movies, and Ellen DeGeneres because she is hysterically funny!
