Complete AVCA All-America Team
Christopher Newport sophomore Hannah Miller earned first-team All-America honors to headline a group of five CAC volleyball players, including four from CNU, on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team.
Miller became just the second Captain in program history to secure first-team honors. Joining Miller on the All-America list for the Captains were CAC Player of the Year Rachel Conway, who picked up second-team honors, Briana Sutton earned third-team accolades, and Eliza Fisher was named honorable mention.
Salisbury's Katie Stouffer also garnered
honorable mention accolades.
With the honor, Miller is just the second CNU player to earn
first-team All-American accolades, joining fellow middle hitter
Bailey Jensen, who was celebrated as a senior in 2012. Also a
first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection this year,
Miller has pieced together an incredible sophomore campaign.
Entering the NCAA Championships, she is one of only two players in
the nation who rank in the top-20 nationally in both hitting
percentage and blocks. She currently stands 15th in the country
with a .359 hitting percentage and 17th with 129
rejections.
A dominant presence throughout the season, she was named to
the Captains Classic and Mary Washington Invitational
All-Tournament teams before being selected the MVP of the NCAA
Regionals over the weekend. Honored as the AVCA National Player of
the Week on September 9, she currently has 19 double-digit kill
efforts this season and has registered at least four blocks on 15
occasions. Overall, the Palmyra, Virginia native has 355 kills and
is averaging 1.06 blocks-per-set.
Helping pace the offensive attack, Conway secured
second-team All-American honors after picking up first-team
All-Conference and All-Region nods. She was also named the CAC
Player of the Year this season. One of the finest setters in the
nation, she stands 20th in the NCAA with 1,224 assists and has
helped the squad rank fifth in the country with a .263 hitting
percentage. Her 10.12 assists-per-set average also ranks sixth on
the program's all-time single-season list.
Selected to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team over the
weekend, she was also honored as the MVP of the Juniata / ASICS
Invitational and was named to the Mary Washington Invitational, CNU
Invitational, and Pikes Peak Challenge All-Tournament squads. A
two-time CAC Player of the Week honoree, Conway has 11 40-assist
efforts this season, including a career-high 55 at Salisbury on
September 30. A well-rounded athlete, the Fairfax, Virginia native
also has seven double-doubles, including a 15-dig effort against
Eastern on September 5.
One of the most imposing players on the court, Sutton has
added firepower on the outside for the Captains. The sweet-swinging
sophomore leads the team with a 2.95 kills-per-set average. Her 333
total blasts also rank second overall. Along with her All-American
honor, she was also a first-team All-Region selection and a
second-team All-Conference pick.
So far this season, Sutton has 18 double-digit kill efforts,
including three straight during the NCAA Regionals over the
weekend. Honored as the MVP of the Captains Classic and named to
the Juniata / ASICS Invitational All-Tournament team, she roped a
season-high 18 kills while hitting .560 during a three-set victory
over Bridgewater on August 30. She also had 13 kills on just 17
swings against SUNY Cortland on September 19. An equally impressive
server, the Williamsburg, Virginia native has 25 aces, including
the clincher during the Regional Championship match against Eastern
on November 16.
Piecing together one of the finest debut seasons in program
history, Fisher is the first CNU freshman to earn All-American
honors since 2009. A dynamic offensive threat, she ranks fourth on
the team with 256 kills while hitting at a .268 clip. A first-team
All-Region and second-team All-Conference selection, she also sits
third on the Captains with 46 aces. That total is the most by a CNU
freshman in four years.
So far this season, Fisher has 11 double-digit kill efforts,
including four straight from September 26-October 3. She also
helped carry CNU into the Regional Championship match after roping
10 kills on just 21 swings against Stevenson in the semifinals on
November 15. Just as disruptive on the defensive end, the Fairfax,
Virginia native ranks fourth on the team with 64 blocks and has
tallied at least one in 14 of her last 15 appearances this
season.
Stouffer followed her impressive freshman campaign with an even
better second season that culminated in her leading the CAC in five
offensive categories, including kills (431), kills per set (3.72),
and points per set (4.03). She also led the Sea Gulls with a .275
hitting percentage, while finishing third on the squad with 151
digs and 45 total blocks.
