Wesley's Tristin Burris Wins Race At Delaware State; Salisbury Tops Among CAC Teams At Gettysburg
Wesley junior Tristin Burris won the individual championship at the Delaware State Invitational, and Salisbury topped three other CAC teams in the final standings at the Gettysburg Invitational, highlighting Saturday's women's cross country action.
Burris covered the 5,000-meter course in 20:29.82, outdistancing her nearest competitor by 19 seconds for the victory. Twila McCrea and Kristine Bailey joined Burris in the top 10. McCrea turned in a 23:42.73 to finish eighth, while Bailey was six seconds behind her in ninth place. Farryn Kauffman claimed 13th place with a time of 26:36.60. Shakeiya Marshall rounded out the top five with a time of 31:12.03 in 15th place. Despite Burris' win, the Hornets took the win in the dual meet with six straight finishers after the Wolverines' top runner.
At Gettysburg, Salisbury (287 points) finished 8th out of 31 teams, including several NCAA Division I and II squads. Mary Washington (307) was close behind in 10th place, followed by St. Mary's (518) in 19th place and Frostburg State (644) in 22nd place.
The individual chase among CAC runners was neck-and-neck, with four runners crossing the finish line within 18 seconds.
Mary Washington's Liz Green placed 44th individually in 25:30.33, followed by Salisbury teammates Anna Steinman (47th, 25:34.54) and Becca Stinner (51st, 25:43.16) and Frostburg State's Anne Patron (54th, 25:48.65).
At the Goucher Classic, York freshman runner Misty Parshall captured first-place honors Saturday to lead York to a second-place finish. Parshall bested the field of 70 total runners as she put up a 25:22, six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
