Mary Washington Edges York And Salisbury To Finish 2nd In Frostburg State Women's Cross Country Invitational

Six of the seven CAC schools competed this weekend at Frostburg University for the Frostburg State University Invitational.  This is the same site where the conference championships will be held later this fall on October 27th.  Men ran the 8K course while the women ran a 6K.

Frostburg women captured 7th place at their home meet on Saturday.  Junior Jen Bower scored first for the Bobcats with a time of 28:32.31.  The Bobcats will compete next Saturday, September 29 at the Dickinson College Long/Shot Invitational.

The Saints raced a 6K at Frostburg and were rewarded with 6th place.  Junior Jess Daley led the way, crossing the finish 33rd in 27:27.85.  Close behind Daley was Freshman Peyton Bodecker at 28:18.28.  The Saints will remain inactive next week and will race on October 6 at the Hagan Stone XC Classic.

The Eagles placed 2nd of 8 competing women’s teams at Frostburg this weekend and had two in the top ten.  Top finisher for Mary Washington was sophomore Tara Landy in 4th place with a time of 25:05.10.  Freshman Lauren Braney was next, completing the 6K course in 25:24.74 for 6th place.  The Eagles will fly again at the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pa., on September 28.

The Salisbury women finish 4th of 8 teams at Frostburg this weekend with sophomore Hailey Spinapont finishing first for the Seagulls for the third consecutive meet.  Spinapont placed 3rd, crossing the finish in 24:46.70.  Shortly after, sophomore Kira Polimeni and senior Jesse Early finished 26th and 27th, respectively.  Polimenti completed the course in 27:09.45 and Early came in at 27:12.27.  Salisbury will race again at the Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, Md. on September 29.

The Knights raced in the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday, finishing  2nd of six teams on the 5K course.

St. Mary’s ran Frostburg’s 6K course and achieved 5th place overall.  First for the Seahawks was freshman Emily Plum with a finishing time of 27:26.48.  Plum was shadowed by sophomore Michelle DiMenna, finishing less than 20 seconds later at 27:45.22.  The Seahawks travel to Newville, Pa on the 29th for the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational.

Spartan women conquered third place at Frostburg with sophomore Jess Miller crossing the finish 7th in 25:32.76.  Senior Tuesday Wilson and sophomore Jess Parshall were not far behind Miller, finishing in 25:56.80 at 13th place and 25: 59.55 in 14th place.  Interestingly enough, York’s cross country coach, Erick Camodeca, had both men and women’s teams run through a pre-race workout.  Coach wanted to have the runners to push through the fatigue and increase their pace in the last mile.  The Spartans will race again on September 29 at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational.
