Frostburg State Women's Cross Country Captures Team Title To Highlight Saturday's Action Around The CAC
Frostburg State captured the team title at the Aaron Slafka Memorial Invitational, while a quartet of CAC teams competed at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational on Saturday. Christopher Newport competed in a highly-competitive meet in Salem, Oregon, while Penn State Harrisburg hosted a meet on Friday.
For Frostburg State, senior Bryn Allston posted her best time of the season as she led the Frostburg State women's cross country team to a first place finish at the Aaron Slafka Memorial Invitational hosted by Pitt-Greensburg and Westmoreland County Community College, Saturday morning. Allston posted a time of 19:41 for a second-place finish as all of the Bobcats' top-five runners finished in the top-15.
At the Paul Short Invitational, Mary Washington, Salisbury, Wesley and York each represented the CAC.
UMW finished in second place among 22 schools in the White Division. Teagan Young finished in second place overall, at 21:39, while Lauren Braney was 11th at 22:56.
York finished fourth of 35 teams in the race, behind only RPI, Mary Washington, and California University of Pennsylvania. The Spartans were led by senior Jess Miller as she placed eighth with a time of 22:42.
Salisbury placed 19th with 577 points. Senior Olivia Cloud continued her leadership of the Sea Gull women, pacing the team with a 65th-place finish in 24:23.
Once again, Wesley was led by Dieunise Desir on Saturday afternoon at the Paul Short Run. A sophomore from New Castle, Del., Desir finished 89th of 309 runners to finish the 6K course in 24:46.
Competing in one of the largest meets on the West Coast, Christopher Newport came in sixth overall and fourth among Division III programs during the 40th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Willamette's Bush Park on Saturday afternoon. All of the programs that finished ahead of the Captains are currently recognized in the USTFCCCA National Rankings. Christopher Newport posted a score of 205 during the meet and averaged 19:13 over the 5k course. Logan Harrington led the Captains after finishing 36th overall with a time of 18:54.2. That clocking marks the program's fifth-fastest at the 5k distance and the best since 2001. Julie Machamer also broke the 19-minute mark after finishing 40th overall, clocking in at 18:59.5.
On Friday, Penn State Harrisburg hosted its own invitational, finishing fourth overall. Sophomore Rachel Seachrist posted an 11th-place finish to lead the Blue & White.
